The United Football League has one of the best playoff races in pro sports right now.
That’s because they solved one of the biggest problems in sports: teams with worse records making the playoffs just because they won their division.
@TheUFL got rid of divisions and conferences completely. Every team is competing in the same standings, so every game matters and the best teams actually get rewarded.
It’s also a big reason why the league is having such a strong 2026 season. The games feel more meaningful, the standings are tighter & fans actually understand what’s at stake every single week.
The @TheUFL is averaging 631,000 viewers per game this season.
The NHL averaged 546,000 on national TV and the MLS averaged 120,000.
Spring football has failed in America for 40 years - this feels like the first version that actually has a chance to last.
The biggest reason why:
The UFL became developmental football with real stakes, recognizable coaches, players people actually know and legitimate TV distribution.
And in a football obsessed country, there’s real value in that.
