This picture of Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams comforting her son Darrell at his father’s funeral breaks my heart.
It is all too similar to photos I have seen of my mother and me at my father’s funeral. The same grief. The same violence. The same racism. The same ache of a child forced to grow up without a father and a wife forced to live without her husband.
Sixty-three years ago today, Medgar Evers was assassinated after a life of courageous service for civil rights and voting rights. My prayers are with Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams, the Evers family, and all who continue to love and honor him.
