Hot take: You’re team periods are ineffective when you’re scout team is significantly overmatched and/or not fitting like the opponent. You’re better off going half line or investing more time into group/indy.

A community college professor named Marty Lobdell taught the same study skills lecture for 30 years. The video quietly became one of the most watched educational recordings online, with over 10 million views. He spent his career watching students fail not because they were lazy, but because no one had taught them how their brain actually works when learning something difficult. The lecture, “Study Less Study Smart,” contains a powerful framework. Your brain cannot sustain focus the way most people believe. Studies show the average learner hits a wall between 25 and 30 minutes. After that, efficiency collapses. You’re still sitting there, but almost nothing is being absorbed. Lobdell told the story of a student who planned to study 6 hours a night, 5 nights a week. Thirty hours total. She failed every class. She was not lacking effort. She was confusing time near books with actual learning. The fix is simple: when focus drops, stop, take a 5 minute rewarding break, then return. That reset makes a massive difference. He also destroyed the myth of highlighting and re reading. Recognition is not the same as recall. To prove it, he read 13 random letters. Almost no one remembered them. Then he turned them into “Happy Thursday.” The entire room recalled them instantly. The brain stores meaning, not repetition. This is why elaborative encoding works so well. Finally, he shared the most important principle: 80 percent of study time should be active recitation. Close the book and explain the material in your own words. Teach it to someone else or an empty chair. Retrieval is where real learning happens. His closing line stuck with me: If this information does not change your behaviour, you have not actually learned it. The best students do not study more hours. They stop confusing the feeling of studying with the reality of learning.

Don’t be misinformed!! JUCO years still count towards your eligibility!! I’ve ran into a lot of recruits lately saying, “they said I can come here and then have 4 more years somewhere else” Please do YOUR research, as of now, they count towards your NCAA and NAIA eligibility!!

The Rooney Rule doesn't work at the root of the problem i.e. nepotism in the entry-level jobs. The most qualified candidates got to fill their CVs with opportunites given to them by their white dads and their buddies. The NFL needs a non-nepo quota for lower-tier positions.

Going to a high school before any of the students who go there today were even old enough to form a thought does not make you qualified to be a head coach there. Actually having subject matter competency in teaching and coaching the sport does. Note to some high schools out here!

Texas Tech OC Mack Leftwich - Slot Option - "This was probably our best quick game this past year (2023 Texas State/#14 OFF in the country). We were really efficient on this, averaged a bunch of yards per play, over 70% completion." - Outside WR = MOR - Option WR = Skip off the LOS with pace and let the defense declare what's going on. - Option vs Outside Leverage = Widen off the LOS & attack outside leverage of the defender. "What we want on the option is we want the in breaker. That's where the big plays are. The big plays are on the slant. We want to save space for the slant." - Option vs Cover 2/Cloud CB = Sit, turn inside to the QB. - Option vs Inside Leverage = Break outside at 5 yards. "Common sense football." - Different complimentary tags: Y Cross, Stick etc.

As a coach who didn’t play in college I can relate to this so much!! Can’t even count how many times I’ve experienced this - there’s so many talented football minds that get overlooked due to lack of playing experience.
One of the most fascinating things to me is WHY in life some ppl are given multiple opportunities while others have to fight for everything!! In the football world it’s often based more off: how u look, what school you went to or some mysterious, unproven “potential” we place on some over others that has little to do with actual production! Ironically, I feel like this can often be the case in the real world as well! But one of the coolest things is to prove the world’s theories wrong & show ppl they are looking at the wrong things & missed what was in front of them the whole time! (The only problem is you must be given an opportunity to do this)

Parent Recruiting Legend! 🚨 • PWO — Preferred Walk-On: Invited to join the team with a reserved roster spot, but no scholarship money. Treated similar to scholarship players in day-to-day operations. • WO — Walk-On: No guaranteed spot. Must earn a place through tryouts or camp. • PSA — Prospective Student-Athlete Any athlete a college is evaluating or communicating with before enrollment. • OFFER (Scholarship Offer): A school is committing athletic scholarship money if the athlete accepts. • NON-RENEWAL (Scholarship Not Renewed): Scholarships are 1-year deals. A non-renewal means the school won’t renew it for the next year. • GRAYSHIRT: Delay enrolling full-time until spring. Saves eligibility and scholarship numbers for the program. • REDSHIRT: Player sits out a season (up to 4 games in football) to save a year of eligibility. • BLUESHIRT: Player joins the team without a formal recruiting process; counts forward toward next year’s scholarship class. • TRANSFER PORTAL: Database where athletes can officially declare intent to transfer. • OV — Official Visit: School covers travel expenses. Max 5 total for the athlete (new rule allows more, but only 1 per school). • UV — Unofficial Visit: Visit paid for by the family; athlete meets coaches and sees campus. • COMMITS: Athlete verbally agrees to attend a school. Not binding until signing the NLI. • NLI — National Letter of Intent: The binding document that finalizes an athlete’s commitment to a school (usually signed on Signing Day).

Some coaches forget to explain this clearly: FCS Football: •63 scholarships total •90 players on the roster •Average scholarship value: ~$14,000 (FCS programs do not have 90 full rides — those 63 are split across the entire team.) Division II: •36 scholarships total •90 players on the roster •Average scholarship value: ~$6,000 (D2 schools also split scholarships. Very few players receive anything close to a full ride.) NAIA: •24 scholarships total •90 players on the roster •Average scholarship value: ~$8,400 This is exactly why coaches tell athletes to take academics seriously. Everybody is not getting a full ride. Most athletes are getting partial athletic aid academic aid grants just to get their balance down. So when a coach says your balance is $0, that usually means they used your academics first, then added some football money to close the gap.
