To: All College Baseball Athletes/Coaches
It is evident that the landscape of recruitment has undergone significant changes. I have participated in several college-sponsored workout sessions, and I must express my concerns regarding their efficacy. I question whether these events are genuinely designed for recruitment purposes, as they appear to primarily serve as fundraising initiatives.
During these workouts, I have observed several athletes who demonstrably possess the skills to compete at the collegiate level. However, despite their evident talent, these individuals frequently do not receive any offers. This observation has prompted me to attend actual team practices to assess the current roster's potential.
It is perplexing to note that some players currently on these teams would not meet the performance standards of even a junior league. Yet, these institutions host recruitment workouts, actively seeking new talent, while simultaneously failing to extend offers to highly capable individuals who have traveled considerable distances to showcase their abilities, often surpassing 50% of the existing team players. This situation is, frankly, quite astonishing.
While I acknowledge that each institution operates under its own discretion, I extend my best wishes to all aspiring student-athletes seeking college commitments this fall. I sincerely hope that their potential and merit will be the sole determinants of their opportunities, rather than personal connections.
