to the rising juniors whose recruiting journey is just getting started on june 15, I've been thinking about posting this for a while. recruiting is loud. social media, rankings, big program names, parent opinions... it's a lot. I'm just a player who went through the process. I don't have all the answers, but maybe something I learned along the way helps someone. 🧵
soccer got you here. but don't let it be the only thing that guides your college decision. does the campus feel like home? does the city excite you? does the academic program set you up for what comes after soccer? after watching my sister finish four years of college soccer, I can tell you... soccer ends. your education, your career, your memories of those four years... those don't. pay attention to how the coaches and players make you feel. do they make you feel wanted, supported, and like you could become a sister for life? or does it instead feel like you're a competitor before you're a person? that feeling is worth trusting. the whole picture matters.
once all of that feels right... then start digging into the soccer questions. 🔍 ask yourself: "will I have a real opportunity to compete for playing time?" "how will I be treated after I arrive on campus?" playing time and transfer portal info for every program are available online. talk to current and past players and ask if this is a place where you can help build something. the right fit is where you don't just belong... it's where you can build something that wasn't there before you arrived.
at the end of the day, I just hope every player finds a place where they feel seen by their coaches, by their teammates, and by the school itself. not just as an athlete, but as a person. the right fit is out there for everyone. I hope you find yours. 🙏🤍 and if I'm not already following you, please follow me so I can follow you back. I'd love to be part of your journey.
