FROM THE ARCHIVE
An historic moment for the club in April 1982, our centenary year, when the committee made the decision not to sack two players - Chris Chapman and Alan Smyth - after they were sent off in a first-team match against Egham Town.
Prior to that meeting, it had been Corinthian policy that a player who was sent off in the club colours should not represent the team again. But manager Billy Smith, who transformed the club in his time at the helm, spoke up for the players and the committee unanimously decided to relax their very traditional code of conduct.
The Berger Isthmian News reported that the general feeling among Casuals officials was that the club "must move with the times".
The history of our club is punctuated by moments of compromise like these as times and the game changed around us, from entering league and cup competitions for the first time, to introducing training, and even widening the pool of players beyond varsity footballers.
