One of the important lessons from the Covid 19 pandemic was for NFPs to ask for what is needed. This may seem obvious, but in the asymmetrical world of NFPs, the reluctance to ask is a major barrier.

Government funding is one of the most critical aspects of the ecosystem in which charities operate. It's 50% of all charity revenue. Govt grant management needs an overhaul, but any reforms must be informed by active engagement with charities and NFPs.

The ATO has tried for 2 years to make the NFP self-assessment policy work but 80% of targeted NFPs have not lodged returns. We can argue about why, but what we cannot argue about is that the measure has failed to achieve the desired policy outcome.
