I did a presentation about the virtues of using @pascoscientific smart carts in the Physical Science classroom at @tcboe 's STEAM By Design Conference. The lucky winner of the door prize, a pasco smart cart fan accessory, was Jaime Wilkey of Munford Middle School. Thanks Pasco!

Students in my #physics class used equipment from @pascoscientific to demonstrate torque at our Technology Showcase yesterday. @BBCMHS @tcboe A model tower crane demonstrated how lifting a load creates a torque and how the load on the fulcrum is reduced by moving the load.

As far as I know, this was an original use of the equipment. The pulley on the @pascoscientific meter torque pivot had fixed strings attached to the force sensors on smart carts. Any movement at the pivot point was transmitted to the force sensors.

They also had the idea to use the rotation sensor to show that the angular acceleration did not change on the lifting mechanism (we called it the crane's motor). We didn't include this concept in the presentation due to time.
