Upon request, I recorded the intro to program synthesis I gave at @CompilerMeetup . I tried to make it self-contained, and have some breadth while going deep. youtube.com/watch?v=SY9UWvtp…

This is the recording of our discussion yesterday with Sebastian Hack. Sebastian is one of the most humble and competent people in our community. We tackled topics that are rarely discussed, and I'm grateful Sebastian approached them so thoughtfully. youtube.com/watch?v=Dav6zOgh…

This Thursday, @taktoa1 will join us for a discussion! Remy is a UIUC alum, founding engineer of MatX, and previously worked on compilers at Google. He'll talk about MatX's compiler IR and chip development methodology, with a focus on how ideas from formal methods give big wins.

Matteo's breadth and depth is humbling: FFTW, Cilk, cache-oblivious algorithms, AWS EFS, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, zero-knowledge proofs. But even more exciting: Matteo will talk about an unpublished compiler problem he worked on!

This Thu 9/19, 1-2pm, 4102 SC, we'll have our first official meeting, with me (@SBaziotis) presenting: Compiler Research is Not Dead Yet (at least not in Query Processing) We'll discuss how query processing presents opportunities for traditional compiler research!

Most of the talk will be on query interpretation vs query compilation. Then, as time permits, we'll talk about a SIGMOD 2024 paper: Query Compilation Without Regrets, which bridges the two, through traditional compiler technology: an IR, a runtime, and code generation schemes.

We also invite important figures, particularly ones who haven’t given many talks, interviews, etc. We now also have a YT channel where we'll post recordings of these invited talks. Here's a recording with Daveed from Edison Design Group: youtube.com/watch?v=eSJsURVV…
