The discussion of the Sherman engaging tanks is like a mental form of the backrooms. Just an endless loop of both sides agreeing with one another but something just doesn't click. I'm convinced you could explore this topic forever and still not settle the argument I'll try my best though and I almost regret making the post that started all this in the first place because it's maddening The Sherman was designed to fight tanks, it may not have been its primary purpose but that does not mean it wasn't meant to or that the gun was there "just in case". Yes obviously tank destroyers were specifically built to fight tanks and not do much else, but that does not mean the tanks aren't also going to fight tanks. I really don't know how else to explain this. There isn't an argument here and we all agree you're just caught up on the wording and spiralling into a loop

You aren't a real American if you don't get the urge to buy a flintlock anytime you listen to anything about the American Revolution

Girls und panzer but the localizers cram in a bunch of shitty war thunder/world of tanks references You just know they would find a way to put an "attack the D point" or "the loader bought the farm" and redditors would seal clap with tears running down their faces
If localizers had their way we would all be saying "Girls and Tanks" instead of "Girls und Panzer".

Looking back at different eras of history really makes you wonder how people in 30 years will look back on this point in time. Everything gets portrayed as some massive story but many likely will be largely forgotten even by the end of the decade or news cycle

While the 75mm armed Sherman was still capable of dealing with the German Tiger and Panther this was by no means an easy task. As these diagrams show at most angles the 75 was all but useless and even against the side of the Tiger it required being at closer ranges

Recent interactions have reminded me of just how tiresome it is to deal with video game history fans. Everything just becomes an argument over paper stats rather than factoring in everything else about the vehicle/weapon This isn't specific to wehraboos either and I see it from both sides CONSTANTLY. No the Sherman was not better than the Tiger head to head but combat isn't just one tank fighting another tank. Not only are there multiple tanks in a unit but there's infantry, artillery, and air support which may be just a radio call away. On the flip side Germany DID have better tanks and were more advanced in some areas like their rocket program, but this doesn't mean they had any chance of winning the war This same mentality unfortunately extends to the current day where you see posts mocking the new Chinese or Russian weapons system based on a few clips posted to the internet. It may very well be true that the US and its allies are superior technologically to those potential adversaries but it's not a good strategy to simply assume that and ignore them. War is very much a business no matter how you look at it and it's rarely a good business move to ignore your competition if you want to stay on top

No wonder the Germans invaded the Soviet Union, they clearly needed the strategic Pallas cat reserves held deep within its borders

Gonna be real, I think AI alarmism over stuff like this is more harmful than the use of AI itself. Absolutely call it out if you have proof but a photo looking a little funny isn't really proof of anything and just encourages people to call out other posts as AI. I have this happen to me surprisingly often with people thinking my narration is AI generated. Instead of attacking the tons of slop channels we get hate mobs with their pitchforks and torches rallying because your phone camera did weird post processing on a photo or you speak with a more monotone cadence rather than like Mr.Beast after a few bars of German chocolate (IYKYK)

I don't think I can ever go back to regular support material now that I started playing around with using interface materials. This was a vertical overhang but one layer of PETG and the surface is nearly perfect and the supports peel off without a fight
