Height doesn’t matter but early maturated kids all the rage, most abandoned by 16,17,18 as everyone caught up. My son was told by a cat 1 aged 7 (late bday) that won’t take him for u9 as won’t be big enough to be a defender he’s 16 and 6ft 2 now
Academies asking for parents’ height to help predict the future physical profile of a player…
Is this really the direction youth development should be going?
Physicality matters, of course.
But would players like Vitinha or João Neves have been selected in some systems at younger ages?
Or would they have been overlooked because they were “too small” or “couldn’t get around the pitch” early enough?
