The best move Obsession can do after it makes it's eventual fade from theaters is to not go immediately to streaming. Let it take a breather for a month or two and then hit streaming with a grand entrance.

The only thing I don't like about Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is the lore train. Every little bit of Indy's identity is discovered on this thing. Nonetheless a fun scene. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) | Steven Spielberg

Tango & Cash rules so hard because it starts as a semi-grounded buddy cop comedy thriller, but then the 3rd act throws all that out because they realize there's only a half an hour left to blow up as much shit as possible. Tango & Cash (1989) | Andrey Konchalovskiy

A tragic clash of oath and honor. But the real tragedy here is this scene is where Ed Harris finally ends Michael Biehn's career as a Navy SEAL once and for all. The Rock (1996) | Michael Bay

Poster, covers, and marketing art has fallen so sharp at this point you can barely call it art
Artful comparison. Do marketers think the image on the right is better and will generate more $$$?

Whoa Dwayne Johnson wanted an Oscar nomination for "The Smashing Machine"? What a shocking revelation. It was about a subtle as a sledgehammer to the fucking face.

The Rock is now 30 years old and has some of the most dynamic characters in an action movie. Hummel and Mason are mirror opposites right down to how they enter Alcatraz (voluntarily, involuntarily). But each spark a revelation neither can ignore. The Rock (1996) | Michael Bay

Mason reveals to Hummel the depths the state is willing to go to never admit they were wrong. He knows they'd be more than willing to napalm the island and kill innocent people than pay for those they wronged. Hence, "Personally, I think you're a fucking idiot." Hummel comes to the same conclusion by the 3rd act but it's too late. Hummel reveals to Mason that he can't hide from the fight no matter how much of ghost he becomes. He can't ignore the monster the state has created and therefore choses to protect the innocent rather than flee. Neither of these things are clearly stated. All brilliantly buried in the subtext.

Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds is an interesting commentary on a post-9/11 world where the terror within exploits the myth of safety. Even Tom Cruise can't save us from aliens when he can barely keep his own family safe. War of the Worlds (2005) | Steven Speilberg

Backrooms was alright. Chiwetel Ejiofor turns in another good performance (I honestly can't think of a bad Chiwetel Ejiofor performance off the top of my head). Kane Parsons has the chops to direct features. Looking forward to what he cooks up in the future. The problem with Backrooms is it trades the abstract for world-building and tries to define the indefinable. The more it expands and justifies the existence of the backrooms, the more the movie shrinks.

Obsession's art director is about the be the world's most almost famous barista She has two credits to her name... a short film and OBSESSION I never seen anyone speed run squandering opportunity this fast
I regret to inform you that the insufferable art director of Obsession continues being insufferable. She’s contacting the union (to complain about a non-union production…) because reasons. 🤪 Her post should be taught in schools for what NOT to do when opportunity knocks!

Without seeing Masters of the Universe, this shows how insane these mega budgets have become. It's absurd Amazon MGM spent $200m on an reboot of a failing or forgotten about IP. This isn’t a movie where kids drag their parents to the theater, it’s a hostage situation in reverse. The kids don't care about the brand, they're trying to sneak into Obsession or Backrooms. They have no interest in sitting in the dark watching their father, his hairline retreating by the month, drown in a puddle of cheap nostalgia. It should have be a $60-$100m piece aiming simply to hook a new generation and make them want to buy the toys. Instead, they took the main character and dropped him into a corporate, HR-office nightmare. That kind of drab, bureaucratic exhaustion will make a kid run the other direction faster than they’d chase an ice cream truck on a hot summer afternoon.
