Without seeing Masters of the Universe, this shows how insane these mega budgets have become. It's absurd Amazon MGM spent $200m on an reboot of a failing or forgotten about IP.
This isn’t a movie where kids drag their parents to the theater, it’s a hostage situation in reverse. The kids don't care about the brand, they're trying to sneak into Obsession or Backrooms. They have no interest in sitting in the dark watching their father, his hairline retreating by the month, drown in a puddle of cheap nostalgia.
It should have be a $60-$100m piece aiming simply to hook a new generation and make them want to buy the toys. Instead, they took the main character and dropped him into a corporate, HR-office nightmare. That kind of drab, bureaucratic exhaustion will make a kid run the other direction faster than they’d chase an ice cream truck on a hot summer afternoon.
