Reading "Wastelands" by @CorbanAddison. Story is about a case against Smithfield but it speaks to the growth of Chinese owned ag operations in the US. A lot of recent talk here about the Chinese buying pot farms in Oklahoma, but this problem has existed for decades across ag.

One revelation: Chinese companies raise hogs in the US because it's cheaper to grow them here than in China. That's partly because China has tougher rules on managing waste than the US does. A big hog farm produces more waste than a small city but has no sewage treatment plant.
