For myself and many others in our region Bill Ritter has been a constant for decades, pursuing the truth and delivering the facts–wherever they might lead. Over my career I’ve had the pleasure of facing his questions many times, and always walked away from him inspired by his uncompromising integrity, his enormous heart, and his deeply decent & noble spirit. His immense and profound care for the people of New Jersey, New York, and beyond could be felt through every story. His farewell message reflects the values that drew so many of us to him. My heart is with him and his loved ones as he faces this diagnosis.

Twenty years ago this summer, I raised Newark’s first Pride Flag at City Hall—& the hate calls came fast. But I vowed: I won’t marry anyone until everyone can. Then at midnight in 2013, love finally won. Couples of every background said “I do” as joy overflowed. Love knows no barriers.
