Next to the fact that we see a clear decrease in reach on X, the platform's recent developments and its current management do not align with what we stand for as an organisation.

Today, ECSA publishes its Report on #Audiovisual Composers' Contracts. Drawing on consultations with our members from across Europe, the report outlines and denounces various harmful and persistent contractual challenges faced by European audiovisual #composers, such as: 🔷 #Buyout contracts and work made for hire provisions 🔷 Pseudo-publishing 🔷 The waiving of moral rights The report also provides 7️⃣ key recommendations to tackle these harmful practices. 📢 We call on policy makers and the audiovisual industry to renew their efforts to tackle buyout contracts and other harmful practices in composers’ contracts, so that composers can truly benefit from appropriate and proportionate remuneration for the exploitation of their works. 🔗 Full report: bit.ly/3WDiAkB

🚨 10% of tracks uploaded to Deezer every day are fully AI generated, according to new research from Deezer themselves. How much more evidence do you need that generative AI competes with the work it's trained on? 'Fair use' is determined in part by the competitive effect of the use. This is not fair use. newsroom-deezer.com/2025/01/…

Netflix seems to have released a commercial generative AI model trained on copyrighted work without licensing that work. - They've released an AI model, 'Go-With-The-Flow', for controlling motion in AI video - They built it by fine-tuning a base model, CogVideoX - It's likely CogVideoX was trained on ©️ videos without a license. The dataset is not public, but the paper variously describes it as "video... available online" and 35 million "relatively high-quality video clips", plus images from LAION-5B (known to contain ©️ images). - Netflix released this model under a license that allows commercial use Curious what Netflix's position is on the importance of licensing.

This is a good example of why generative AI opt-outs don't work. This author's book has been stolen and mashed up into an unlicensed AI version. AI companies that scrape the internet for training data will ingest the stolen version and train on it. How could the original author possibly opt out the stolen version? h/t @neilturkewitz
yo what the fuck?? i'm furious for this author.

It is nonsensical to allow one part of industry bypass laws that others have to work within including copyright. Because you work with a type of technology should not allow for a company to behave differently towards other industries or individuals than others do.
I wrote in the Guardian today about @UKLabour’s AI Opportunities Action Plan, which proposes handing AI companies the life’s work of Britain’s creators for free. The government must reconsider. We can be a leader in AI without throwing the creative industries under the bus. theguardian.com/commentisfre…
