No sightings Friday, Dhu al-Qidah to begin Sat. night (1st 'day' Sun.) crescentwatch.org ====================== Crescentwatch did not receive any positive naked-eye sighting reports for the new crescent moon (hilal) from anywhere on the evening of Friday, April 17th. All reports were negative from across North America. We are thus completing the 30th day of Shawwal and beginning the month of Dhu al-Qidah on Saturday evening, when the moon should be easily visible throughout North America. The first "day" of Dhu al-Qidah 1447 AH will thus be Sunday, April 19th. It is nonetheless good practice to still go out to observe the new crescent moon on Saturday evening (you can share your observation here). The crescent (hilal) would be visible shortly after sunset, in the area above where the sun had set. It is a beautiful experience to witness its emergence, and it is a sunnah of our noble Prophet ﷺ that we hope the ummah revives.
