Florida woman repeatedly SPITS on deputy's face, and he returns with a SLAP. The incident, which took place in Hernando County, involved a central Florida woman who was taken into custody following reports of public disturbances. While detained in the back of a patrol vehicle, the suspect began violently kicking the interior partition and door frame. Spitting on an officer in the line of duty automatically elevates a simple battery charge to a felony offense.

Pre-trial proceedings in the state's case against Barry Morphew continue to move forward slowly. Following a brief 20-minute virtual status conference on May 19, the court established key deadlines leading into the summer. Key Takeaways: Motion Deadlines: The defense was ordered to file additional pre-trial motions by May 29 to allow proper time for prosecution replies. July Hearings: A full week of in-person motion hearings is officially scheduled for July 6 through July 10 in front of Chief Judge Amanda Hopkins. Morphew must attend in person. Livestream Changes: New Colorado legislation altering municipal and criminal court livestream rules may force the judge to amend how the public views these proceedings online. Next Step: Another virtual status conference takes place June 24 at 3:00 p.m. Morphew faces a charge of first-degree murder regarding the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, following a grand jury indictment in June 2025.

A closer look at the weapon used in the Karmelo Anthony trial. As seen in this update, the Collin County District Attorney's Office has verified that this photo displays a 6-in-1 multi-tool knife identical to the one Anthony used to kill 17-year-old student-athlete Austin Metcalf. The dimensions of the tactical knife (5.0in x 9.0in x 0.75in) became a critical detail in court as prosecutors dismantled the defense’s claims of sudden passion and self-defense during the fast-paced trial in McKinney. #LegalAnalysis #CourtNews #CollinCounty #TrueCrime #TrialUpdates

NICK REINER TRUST FUND UPDATE: The trustee managing the estate of Nick Reiner is reportedly moving to unlock the funds he needs to secure a private defense attorney. Trustee Jodi Montgomery plans to file court documents next week asking a judge to approve Reiner’s petition to access his inheritance. Reiner, who turned 30 in 2023, claims the money was legally supposed to be paid out to him last year. While his siblings reportedly agree with the release of the funds, the final decision rests with the presiding judge. The money issue is a critical factor in Reiner's legal defense. He is currently represented by a public defender after his private attorney, Alan Jackson, had to step down due to a lack of payment. Jackson has stated he intends to rejoin the defense team if the trust fund capital is released. Reiner remains held in jail awaiting trial on two counts of first-degree murder for the alleged stabbing deaths of his parents in their home.
