DIRECT LISTING or LISTING BY INTRODUCTION: Not every company raises money when it enters the stock market. - Sometimes a company simply lists it's existing shares on the exchange without selling new ones This is called DIRECT LISTING. ° No shares are issued ° The company does not raise fresh capital ° Existing shareholders can begin trading their shares publicly. It is mainly done to; - Improve transparency - Allow public trading of existing shares - Increase company visibility - Provide Liquidity for early investors. Examples; 1. MTNN was listed on the NGX in 2019 at 90 naira per share. 2. BUA foods was listed by introduction in 2022 at 40 naira per share. 3. Zichis Agro Allied industries PLC was listed on 20 January 2026,at 1.99 naira. In both cases; - Shares already existed - No public subscription via IPO took place - Investors could only buy once trading started. What it means for Beginner; ° You cannot subscribe beforehand like an IPO ° You wait until the shares begin trading ° Prices may be volatile at the start ° Study fundamentals before rushing to buy.

NGX For Beginners: Read This Before Buying Your First Stock. 1. Market opens 9:30am to 4:00pm only. Mon to Fri. 2. Open a CSCS account first. That’s your stock account in Nigeria. 3. Start with big companies. Dangote Cement, MTN, NAHCO, BUA cement,Okomu, JAIZ BANK, Airtel. 4. Check dividends. Many NGX companies pay you cash yearly. 5. Check volume. If nobody trades it daily, you won’t sell easily. 6. Stocks beat inflation. Cash in bank loses value every year. 7. Do your research. Don’t buy because of WhatsApp tips. 8. Be patient. NGX is long term game. Buy small, buy often. NB: Never invest rent money or school fees. Use money you can forget for 3 to 5 years.

WHEN TO PARTICIPATE IN IPO: Participate if, ° The company is profitable ° It dominates it's sector ° The offer price is attractive ° You intend to hold long-term, because shares prices can dip after the IPO. Avoid IPOs when; ° The company has weak financials ° The Price looks inflated ° Hype is the only selling point.

Hadith of the Day The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.” — Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim Reflection: Our words carry weight. In a world full of noise, choosing kindness, truth, or silence is a sign of strong faith. Every word we say can either build or harm, so let’s be mindful. Dua: O Allah, help us guard our tongues, speak only what is good, and keep us away from harmful speech. Amin 🤲

Whenever you’re learning a new skill, be willing to take risks. That happened to me when I was learning Web Development. At first, the money I had was little, but I still paid for hosting so I could put my codes online. The same with Stock Investment - I started by taking a risk and buying shares directly. Today, I understand that there’s no big success without the courage to start something. Start with what you have now, because experience and confidence come gradually.

INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERING (IPO) ° This is when a company sells shares to the public for the first time ever. ° The company is entering the stock market. The money you pay goes directly to the company to fund it's expansion. Example: when SEPLAT listed on NGX in 2014 via an IPO, it allows Nigerians to own part of the oil giant. Early investors often benefit because; ° IPO prices are usually discounted. ° Public excitement can push prices up later.

PART 3: PRIMARY VS SECONDARY MARKET. The two markets to think of shares like houses. ° Primary market - Buying a house directly from the developer. ° Secondary market - Buying the same house from another owner later. PRIMARY MARKET( New shares issued). - This is when a company is raising fresh money from investors. - You are buying shares directly from the company, not another investor. There are four main ways this happens; 1. IPO- Initial public offering. 2. Public offering (PO). 3. RI- Right issue. 4. Private placement. I will breakdown this four main ways later starting from IPO.

People want 10x returns in 10 months. The market gives 10x returns in 10 years to the ones who wait. Those ₦100-₦1500 stocks look “boring” now. But if the business keeps growing, the price eventually catches up. The gap between now and then is just your patience tax. Time in the market > timing the market.

Your portfolio is just a mirror of your thinking. Panic buyer? Your portfolio is red. Patient buyer? Your portfolio grows slow but steady. Speculator? Your portfolio is a casino. Stocks don’t lie. They reflect your discipline, patience, and knowledge. Fix your thinking → Your portfolio will follow.
