Was walking by myself solo in Japan. Wallet fell out my pocket. Thought I was fucked. Went to 7/11 where I used it and they didn’t have it so I looked around and decided to go to a police station. First time I made money, I spent way more than I should’ve, then the next year, I thought I spent less, but little random one off stuff made it equally the same. Third year, I had a kid, and now even though I personally spend less, the amount will probably be roughly the same or slightly less because of hospital fees. I unsubscribed from every subscription I owned. I rarely go out to eat. I don’t order food from doordash or uber eats. I thought it was weird that the richest guy I know still tried to actively spend as little as he can (this guy makes millions a year and still refuses to pay $10 for a music service. He listens to pandora still with ads, lol). But now I get it. Save your money for the fun stuff (travel, organic foods, events with friends) and reduce all unnecessary spending as much as you can. The habit of spending less is just as important as the outcome of spending less.
