Pete Alonso wasnβt thrilled with how negotiations were going, and during a meeting at his Tampa club with Steve Cohen and David Stearns, he made that clear.
Swinging for the fences, Alonso told Stearns, βWhen my career is being evaluated for the Hall of Fame years from now, youβll still be fiddling with your [flipping] formulas.β Only he didnβt say βflipping.β
Alonso also argued heβs using analytics and biomechanics to get back to his best β points aimed at appealing to someone like Stearns. But that one comment stood out most.
It was a bold statement, especially with Stearns coming off a stronger 2024 than Alonso. Alonso also wasnβt in the strongest negotiating position, given his desire to stay with the Mets despite outside interest from Toronto.
