Starting in April, helmet-wearing will be mandatory for all cyclists in Japan. As this NHK video shows, Osaka police held an event for kids in which they were asked become "child cops" and scan Lego cities for helmet-less cyclists. 🚔

Overhead just now. “We’d rather use bicycles than the bus to get around in Kyoto but our kids are 9 and 6 so it would be dangerous.” Kyoto that’s a big fail.

This is sad for Japan. The most cycling friendly places in the world are some of the happiest places too. They do not have mandatory helmet laws in those places because they truly care about the concerns of cyclists (primarily safe places to cycle without getting hit by a car)
