Maxine knew Carol would be very quick to catch up or even pass her, and that sonic boom confirmed it. She was flying faster than the speed of sound! Far faster than she was, but she gave her enough of a head start where flying at such speeds meant she was only now getting to her.
The Captain would briefly watch Maxine fly forward, winds twisting and warping around her. A competitive grin beginning to take shape as she'd then break the sound barrier with a 'boom', energy streaking off of her form as she began to catch up to the young hero.
