Can you help our partners at @AuroraPD solve this case?
Know her face. Help us find her killer. Chelsea Yasser isn't just an "unsolved homicide." She was a real person, victimized by crime. Chelsea Marie Yasser was 21 years old when on May 15, 2016, she was killed in an Aurora shopping center parking lot. She was a beloved daughter and friend with a good heart. In a few weeks, we’re going to bring you inside this 10-year-old cold case and let you hear from the officers who responded to the scene, the investigators who continue to search for answers and from family members waiting for closure. Chelsea’s family hasn’t given up hope and neither have we. They deserve answers. Every lead has been exhausted. Every option has been pursued -- except one. You. Aurora and beyond, we're asking for help. Because someone knows something. Someone knows who did this. Beginning June 29, APD Presents: The White Whale – The Chelsea Yasser Story. [Media Description: Photos of Chelsea, crime scene photos and poster of podcast name.]

Every act of gun violence leaves a lasting impact on victims, families, friends, and entire communities. During National Gun Violence Awareness Month, we stand with those affected by violence, honor the lives that have been lost, and recognize the strength of survivors. We also reaffirm our commitment to seeking justice, supporting victims, and working alongside our community partners to promote safety and prevention. FACT: Orange is the color of the gun violence prevention movement, chosen in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teenager whose life was tragically cut short by gun violence. The color also reflects the blaze orange worn for safety, symbolizing the value of life and the importance of protecting our communities.

Who killed Chelsea? Coming June 29, APD presents a new podcast with one question: Can you help us find who killed Chelsea Yasser? In late April 2016, 21-year-old Chelsea Yasser traveled to Colorado from Arizona, following her boyfriend who was closing a satellite TV installation business in Colorado Springs. Just three weeks later, Chelsea would be killed, stabbed to death inside a dark red van in a shopping center parking lot on Abilene Street. APD’s cold case detective has been dedicated to investigating this case for the last several years. But now, a new method of investigation is being brought into the fold -- we’re going to bring you inside this investigation. Why? Because we want to see this case solved and we need your help. Episode 1 airs in a few weeks, wherever you get your podcasts. This is APD Presents: The White Whale – The Chelsea Yasser Story, an original podcast by the Aurora Police Department Public Information Office. {Media Description: Video/photos of homicide scene with officers being interviewed.]

🚨***STATEMENT ON INACCURATE INFO INFO POSTED BY FORMER AURORA CITY COUNCILWOMAN***🚨 The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is committed to accountability, transparency, and providing accurate information to the public. Recently, a former Aurora councilwoman tagged our Office in social media posts and incorrectly asserted that the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the DUI case involving Aurora City Councilman Rob Andrews. That information is FALSE. To avoid any potential conflict of interest, District Attorney Amy Padden requested that the case be assigned to a special prosecutor from outside the 18th Judicial District. That request was approved back in March, and the case was subsequently assigned to the Denver District Attorney’s Office. A copy of the court order appointing the Denver District Attorney’s Office as special prosecutor is attached below for reference. Neither District Attorney Padden nor any employee of the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office participated in the prosecution of Mr. Andrews. Questions regarding the prosecution of Mr. Andrews should be directed to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Yesterday, a press conference was held which Rob Andrews attended (he is the one in the suit who looks like Secret Service). This is the same Rob Andrews who got a DUI 3x the legal limit and was just sentenced to 10 days of house arrest. @DA18th, how is he able to attend a press conference that has nothing to do with him? Did he really receive any punishment? Amy Padden, the 18th Judicial DA, max donated to Rob Andrews during his campaign. My other question is why wasn't her office recused from trying his case? When I was the victim in a case, the same office recused themselves because the prior DA donated to me.

This is exactly why reckless e-bike riding is a serious public safety concern. A juvenile rider chose to flee from deputies through a residential neighborhood, reaching speeds and taking risks that endangered everyone nearby. Riding carelessly, the rider narrowly avoided crashing into a fence that could have resulted in serious injury. Too often, riders treat e-bikes like toys. They are not. E-bikes can travel at high speeds and, when operated recklessly, become a danger to pedestrians, motorists, and the riders themselves. If a deputy attempts to stop you, stop. Running from law enforcement is not a game, and it is not without consequences. Intentionally fleeing from deputies can result in felony eluding charges or other criminal and traffic offenses. Our deputies are committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe and safety is a shared responsibility. Parents, know where your children are riding and talk with them about following traffic laws and respecting law enforcement. One poor decision can change a life forever. Ride responsibly.
