Today we celebrate St. Barnabas, the "son of encouragement." Barnabas, originally a Jewish man from Cyprus, was instrumental in the early Church. He championed Paul, preached in Antioch, and paved the way for Gentile converts. He was a true model of faith and evangelization!

The Church names a Doctor when a saint's teaching has so shaped the faith that the whole Church learns from it. St. Ephrem, remembered today, earned it writing hymns... he taught doctrine in poetry so ordinary people could sing what they believed.

Jesus opens His greatest sermon by turning every assumption upside down. The poor, the mourning, the meek, the persecuted, the blessed, all of them. The Beatitudes aren't a strategy for a good life. They're a portrait of who you become when you follow Him.

Having a set day of communal prayer will strengthen our bonds as an Archdiocesan community. Lifting up our souls, hearts and minds together surely will rise as a pleasing offering before God. This Wednesday, we will share a communal prayer to offer up for Journey in Faith.

You don't have to argue your way to evangelization. You have to live your way there.
