Remembering the legendary Japanese actor, Toshiro Mifune (三船 敏郎), who passed away 28 years ago today.
Akira Kurosawa (黒澤 明), who was too ill to attend Mifune's funeral, sent a letter which was recited at the funeral.
Here is an excerpt from that letter:
"We were part of the golden age of Japanese Cinema together. When I look back at each and every film, I couldn't have made them without you. You gave so much of yourself. Thank you my friend. For one last time over a bottle of sake, I wish I could have told you all this. Goodbye, my friend. I'll see you soon."
Less than a year later, Akira Kurosawa passed away.
