An artist's personal depiction of their own life is an "Orientalist assumption". In this worldview, because the "bad thing" was not committed by a white or western person, to even point it out is to be discriminatory. It used to be that only an American could hold this obviously idiotic opinion but it has really seeped into everywhere now. Through education firstly of course, but these days so much through social pressure and culture broadly. It spreads for many reasons, but I think a really big one is from a lack of curiosity. The veil in the context of Iran is a mandatory and oppressive act, forced by law on every woman. Enacted by a theocratic government and literal, not figurative, Morality Police. These facts are not subjective. Women are legally forbidden from singing in public in Iran. The justification is that their singing may be considered potentially erotic. The punishment for going against these edicts can be imprisonment, beatings or of course, worse. The OP either didn't know that or simply cannot understand that. To them in their ultra privileged life the veil means feminism in a very bizarre, twisted and roundabout way, presumably on some expensive campus or similarly incurious social circle. Art is impossible in this worldview. Interesting conversation is impossible. Being a character or free thinker is impossible. It's had far too long of a run and the backlash is going to be quite something.
