I am going on record on the JJM/Kyler Murray QB battle: When the Vikings signed Kyler Murray I thought he’d win the job no question. I then thought they were maybe just going into minicamp splitting reps for some sort of optics thing but the longer this drags on the more I think McCarthy is going to win the job. Yes, I have McCarthy in my big money dynasty league. If you want to say that is clouding my judgment that’s fine, but I also tried to trade 1,2,3 2027 picks for Kyler Murray about 2 weeks ago. The guy inexplicably declined. I would not make that same offer today. We are still in June, but it looks like McCarthy has a real shot at winning the job despite what I thought when Murray signed. I’m not sure what Minnesota told Kyler or if Kyler thought he had a better chance of easily winning the job than he does but KOC saying this will go into training camp makes me think it’s close. Kyler needs as many reps as he can get if he’s the unquestioned starter, they would not be wasting their time on splitting reps if there wasn’t a question. So, until proven otherwise, this is a legit competition with JJ McCarthy having a real shot at being the starter again. He’s 22 and this was his first offseason where he was not rehabbing an injury. Last time he had competition at the position Joe Milton ended up transferring to Tennessee. My official flag plant is McCarthy winning the job. Feel free to victory lap this if I end up being wrong. I remember KOCs face when he announced JJ was out for the season his rookie year. Looked like someone shot his dog in front of him.

A few thoughts on last nights’ Spurs collapse: I was about to start my Spurs series victory lap last night mid game but glad I didn’t. I do think the Spurs are the better team but you obviously most likely can’t come back from a collapse like that. Everything that could have possibly gone wrong went wrong and it has happened multiple times down the stretch in these games. Most of the time the margins are so thin that if you fuck up one thing late in the game you lose but this was several things and it still took an insane tip in shot to win it. Everyone will talk about Fox’s layup but there is also Wemby missing free throws, Wemby turnover(s), Castle turnover(s), no one boxing anyone out on multiple critical possessions down the stretch. I’m missing many more I’m sure. It’s all a part of the collapse. If Fox gets an and 1 layup (he was confirmed fouled) and seals the game what are we talking about today? How badly the Knicks have collapsed in this series and how we are looking at ~75% Spurs series odds. Now the only chance they have is if the Knicks have a similar (albeit way worse) collapse to what the Spurs just did on a macro series level. It’s a mental exercise to stay locked in when you’re up big in the game and in the series - even in the NBA Finals. Knicks should win in 6 at home but you just never know. There is an element to an emotional roller coaster of a win like that that bleeds into the next game. The Spurs are obviously likely cooked but I’m adding a small amount to my Spurs series position, for entertainment value at minimum.
