Children's book author of award-winning STEM books about nature, including A SEED IS SLEEPY, A BUTTERFLY IS PATIENT, AN EGG IS QUIET, A ROCK IS LIVELY and more.
Souvenirs from presentations -- I love the bonuses of being a children's author! David even invited me to go with him and his family to the Dallas butterfly garden, if I would give him my cell # so his mom could text me
Talking with kids about books and nature is a fun and rewarding part of publishing. Hearing their comments and questions is the bonus. From a second grade boy yesterday following, "A beetle is tasty" (A BEETLE IS SHY, illustrated by Sylvia Long). "I'd eat a bug. And a spider."
Preview for MERMAIDS SONG TOTHE SEA '24:
In coral reefs, where sea friends play,
sit three mermaids on a rock in the bay...
who sing to the sea all night, all day.
“Bless clams in their beds
and lobsters in pods.
Bless sharks in their shivers,
and squids in their squads."
Our Light Farms kinder, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd graders loved their special time with author Dianna Hutts Aston yesterday. Wow! Spectacular nonfiction! Many budding authors were inspired. Thank you @DHAston!

Favorite comment from a kindergartener at a presentation:
"You must weally like in sex."
"Pardon me?"
"You must weally like in sex."
Look of utter confusion.
I said, "Pardon me" 3 times before his teacher laughingly translated. "Insects."
"Yes, I really like insects." #steam
Sneak preview of our 7th and last book in the nature series. Spring '23! Grateful for the 18 years we had working on these books as a team. Sylvia Long and everyone at Chronicle Books. I look forward to telling children where shells come from during next year's school visits!
The fox who likes watermelon rinds at sunset. I'm going to miss this little guy when I move to North Texas. @ Fredericksburg, Texas instagram.com/p/Ch3VCO6NouX/…
I've just been called, "Engagingly weird" by a principal in Dallas. The description was meant as a compliment and a testimonial for school presentations copy. An odd compliment, and thankfully she is my sister-in-law and retired.
