Almost every year, a biology teacher at Fresno State University High School in Fresno, CA, has hosted a stem cell registration drive as her seniors walk out the door. This year, 13 of them joined the register before heading into their next chapter. ❀️ The teacher is also part of the DKMS Educator Impact Fellowship, and it shows. This is what it looks like when educators use their platform to make a real difference in the world beyond the classroom. πŸ™Œ 13 seniors. 13 potential matches. A tradition worth celebrating. πŸ”‘

Mark didn't register at a clinic or a campaign event. He registered at a celebration. πŸŽ‰ His neighbor's daughter had just hit an anniversary of being cancer-free, and in that moment, he decided he wanted to offer that same hope to someone else who needed it. He understands his recipient has been through an extended ordeal just to get to this point. That kept it simple for him. "The gift of life is the most precious thing any of us can offer. The ability to impact someone else's future with such a small gesture is incomparable to any other opportunity we have to help others." πŸ’¬ A business consultant. A husband. A dad of two. A guy who likes the gym and getting outside with his family and his dog. πŸ• And now, somebody's reason for more time. πŸ™

Our team has had an amazing year. Growing the registry, showing up for donors and patients, and doing it all together. This week, we all came together to celebrate the wins and develop new strategies to keep evolving! ❀️ So proud of everyone at DKMS US. Can’t wait to see what we do next. πŸ‘

Shoutout to the Rotary Interact Club at Immaculate Heart Central High School for showing up in a big way! πŸ™Œ These students took it upon themselves to host a stem cell registration drive at the YMCA in Watertown, NY, and walked away with 13 new registrations. 13 people who could one day be someone's match. 13 chances at a life saved. ❀️ This is exactly what community looks like. Young people are leading the charge and giving hope to patients who need it most. πŸ”‘ If your school, club, or organization wants to host a drive, send us a dm to get started!

Hartford Area Career and Technical Center in Vermont hosted their own stem cell registry drive and we are SO proud 🩷 10 new donors on the registry and what appears to be a brand new DKMS swab mascot in the making πŸ‘€ This is what taking initiative looks like. Thank you, HACTC!

10 years ago, Stephanie swabbed at an event in Atlanta. Last year, she got a call at work that changed everything. πŸ“ž She traveled from Georgia to Texas with her son to donate, and her recipient is someone's parent, living in another country, who now has more time with their family because of her. She doesn't even know his name yet, but all she cares about is that he's healthy. 🌍❀️ "I would hope that if my loved ones ever needed a transplant someone would be out there that matched for them." That's it. That's why people join the register. Stephanie waited 10 years for that call. She picked up. Now a family on the other side of the world has more time together. πŸ™

When Tevia was younger, his mom was diagnosed with leukemia. She was saved by her sister. πŸ’› That moment never left him. So when he saw a DKMS ad online about 10 years ago, he signed up, hoping that one day he could do for a stranger what his aunt did for his family. That day came. Tevia was matched with a 71-year-old man, and he showed up for him the same way someone once showed up for his mom. His wife told him she was proud. His mother, who knows better than anyone what it means to receive that gift, was proud too. "I just hope I can give him more time with his family." That's it. That's the whole heart of this.

Christy has spent her career in the NICU watching over the smallest patients. This past May, her husband was the one watching over her. 🩺 Some unexplained bruising. A visit that turned into something much bigger. A diagnosis of Aplastic Anemia with PNH and a stem cell transplant on the calendar for this summer. She's a mom of two, a wife, a nurse, and someone with a whole country of people rooting for her. Her friends built a virtual drive so anyone, anywhere can join that circle and get on the registry from home. πŸ’™ If you want to show up for Christy: dkms.org/christysjourney #DKMS #DeleteBloodCancer #AplasticAnemia #StemCellDonor #BloodCancer

Three diagnoses. Multiple doctor visits every week. And still choosing to spend every good moment chasing sunrises with the people she loves most πŸŒ…πŸ©· Candus is 57, from Florida, and she is fighting Polycythemia, Aplastic Anemia, and kidney cancer all at the same time. A mom, a wife, a grandmother of 6, she has every reason to want more time, and she's asking you to help make that possible for someone else, too. Register as a stem cell donor. It starts with a swab. dkms.org

Our friends at DKMS UK started something with the #DoTheSwab campaign, and we're bringing it stateside. If you're 18 to 55, you can join the stem cell register for free in about 5 minutes. We send you a kit, you do a cheek swab at home, send it back. That's it. Young donors produce the best outcomes for patients, but they're the least represented on the registry. Every 3 minutes, someone in the US is diagnosed with blood cancer. A lot of them are searching for a donor match right now and can't find one. You joining changes those odds. Even if you're never called to donate, being on the registry means one more person out there has a fighting chance. Sign up free at dkms.org Do the swab!

Meet Emmalee 🀠 This 11-year-old from Kentucky lives for the rodeo - barrel racing, pole bending, and anything that involves a horse. She's the kind of kid who walks into a room and leaves with a new best friend every single time 🩷 Emmalee was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. And even being almost fully inpatient since her diagnosis, she's already decided she wants to go into oncology when she grows up. She came in wanting to be a dentist and left wanting to help kids just like her. That's Emmalee. Right now, she needs a stem cell donor match. One swab could be everything for her.
