During his address, Chairman, NDDB conveyed that dairy is an integral part of life in India, emphasising the important role the dairy sector plays in providing nutrition to consumers and livelihoods to farmers.
He further highlighted that to achieve the vision of
#ViksitBharat, it is important for dairying as a tool of development to reach all corners of the country with organised players playing a major role, as a larger share of milk is still in the unorganised sector. Dr. Shah underlined that strengthening the organised sector will help ensure that farmers receive a larger share of consumer rupee and consumers get safe milk & milk products.
He also stressed the need for a focus on value-added dairy products to ensure better return for farmers through innovation and product diversification. Chairman, NDDB noted that while the domestic market for milk and milk products is increasing, India must also be export ready, with quality value added milk products being key.
Dr Shah specifically indicated the importance of building these efforts on the pillars of sustainability. While NDDB has taken a lead in this area, he stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together to realise the potential of dung as fuel and fertiliser.
He also mentioned collective action, involving the government, cooperatives and the private sector working together to address sectoral challenges, expand coverage and build a more resilient & sustainable dairy ecosystem.
