The Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science & Society, founded by seismologist @DrLucyJones, fosters the understanding & application of scientific information.
Representatives from our member cities took a tour with Dr. Lucy Jones of the @DLJCSS of the Newport-Inglewood earthquake fault from its northern-most exposure in Baldwin Hills through the South Bay. She explained how fault movement will affect infrastructure. 🫨🏢
With the Baroque Ensemble at @ColburnSchool , we will use music to process our emotional response to the climate crisis in a way that will lead to action. I'm providing the narration about the climate, while the students provide the music! @TempoActioncolburnschool.edu/calendar/e…

📆 Tomorrow is the third Thursday of October- also known as the Great #ShakeOut day! Register yourself and your loved ones for the world's largest #earthquake drill, this year on 10/17 at 10:17 AM.
There is no better time for preparedness than the present!
The Great @ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on 10/17 reminds #Californians to prepare for the next major quake. While concerns often focus on physical injuries & damage, seismologist @DrLucyJones highlights a critical issue: the potential loss of water supply

If it feels like there have been many strong earthquakes this year, it's because there have been. But why is this happening? @drlucyjones sat down with @ABC7 Eyewitness News to discuss Thursday's earthquake in #Malibu and what it means for #SoCal.

The 4.7-magnitude earthquake was felt as far as San Diego and north into the coast of Bakersfield. Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones explains why some residents felt the earthquake while others didn't. foxla.com/news/earthquake-ma…
California is covered pretty well with seismic instruments and they recorded the shaking from this morning's M4.7 earthquake near Malibu. Highest ground accelerations (0.19g) were measured at Lake Sherwood in Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills (0.10g). #earthquake
Nice cup of morning JOLT! Just had a M4.7 earthquake centered near Malibu. Could possibly be on either the Anacapa-Dume or Malibu Coast Fault Zones (both are nearby). #earthquake
I didn't feel a thing - I was in the middle of my morning exercise routine, quite a ways from this M4.7 5 miles north of Malibu. Below are the M≥4s for 2024
I was going to argue about the maximum magnitude comment, sure that I remembered bigger ones in the past. But I searched the catalog and the largest quake of the last 90 years is the same M3.9 in 1953
Welp! Turns out that little M3.5 was a foreshock, because we just felt a M3.9 earthquake here in northern Orange County. We also got a @MyShakeApp alert! Looks like we have a new maximum magnitude for this area of the Fontana Trend. 👍 #earthquake#Ontario
