Imagine a Toronto Maple Leafs team that actually won something. The baseball version won everything in site in 1926, christening their new lakefront stadium. There was plenty of baseball before the Blue Jays; you can learn about a slice of it in my new book. amazon.ca/Howleyites-Toronto…

Gage Stanifer had a terrific month of May (2-1, 1.37 ERA), but those pesky base on balls have bedeviled him (8 in 14 IP) this month. It looks like he’s having trouble establishing his fastball. His slider is still elite, but he needs that FB command to make it effective. /1

Stanifer is R5 eligible this fall. Jays will still likely develop him as a starter, but he may follow the Adam Macko pathway: add him to the 40, eventually move him to the bullpen at some point next season. /end

Leaf fans of a certain vintage can only hope……
A 77-year-old New Yorker bought a portable urinal so he wouldn't risk leaving his seat during a potential Knicks title clincher. That's how much this championship meant to New York. ✍️ @FredKatz nytimes.com/athletic/7355010…

It seems like Juan Sanchez is hitting everything hard right now. He’s had a 107 exit velo lineout and a 98 ground rule double tonight. Of Dunedin’s 3-headed monster, his bat might be the most advanced at the moment.

5 walks in 19 batters spells the end of Landen Maroudis’ day. His command struggles continue.

Can now confirm it’s more of a load management issue.
For those asking about Nolan Perry - who was the scheduled starter for Vancouver today - there’s no official word, but my bet would be he’s a bit banged up after starting twice last week.

About to have one eye on the Jays game, and the other on RHP Landen Maroudis’ start for Vancouver. Maroudis generated a ton of backfield buzz at spring training two years ago, then blew out his elbow, and has struggled this season: 39 IP, 50H, 19BB, 32K, 6.69 ERA.

Maroudis gets two groundouts, one an inning-ending DP in the 1st. Pounding the bottom of the strike zone will be key for him,

Maroudis allows a one out HR - his 8th of the season - on a hanger, then back-to-back walks. A visit by C’s pitching coach Eric Yardley reset things, and Maroudis got another double play ball to end the inning.

The username.
Red Sox catching prospect Johanfran Garcia hit his 10th HR of the season for Portland in his 34th game last night. Just two HRs shy of matching his season high.

That would’ve been out of any park, including Algonquin.

Vancouver 1B/3B Dub Gleed, the C’s best hitter over the past month, gets a well-deserved promotion to New Hampshire.

Kirk should definitely get the majority of the reps, but if the Jays catching situation could evolve into something more along the lines of 1A and 1B, it would be highly beneficial.

It’s a small sample size to be sure, but no one in the Blue Jays system is swinging a bat like Sam Shaw right now. He won’t be in Vancouver for long.

Johnny King’s first inning ERA so far is 6.10. For innings 2-5, it’s a microscopic 0.32. Thanks to @tyler_zickel of the C’s for that stat.

Getting a first look at RHP Carson Messina, Jays 12th rd pick in ‘24 from SC HS. He’s stocky, has a drop and drive delivery with a Stanifer-like short arm stroke. FB sits 93-94, curve has some delicious late bite.

Messina missed most of 2025 (he was “beat up” in the words of farm director Joe Sclafani), dominated the FCL this year. Throws a 4S, a bowling ball of a sinker, cutter, and slider. He’s looking comfortable in his full season debut.

Messina had what appeared to be some blister issues in his 3rd inning of work, lost the strike zone a bit, and hit his pitch limit with one out and two runners on.
