As someone who’s thought/studied HL a bunch – I really don’t know if the dominance of @tradexyz is welcome. But given they went thorough so much effort to build a complex solution that could handle tons of participants, I lean to “no”. As the way it is played out – they could have instead just inked a direct partnership with @tradexyz and saved a lot of trouble building that solution. So yeah, the 90/10 result feeling a bit “unintended.”

Building up a solid spot market foundation is way harder than building perps volumes – even though perps can be more lucrative. Spot requires lots of native token integrations, lots of traders depositing tokens and capital, and years of “liquidity begets liquidity”. Solana built this foundation, to the point some of my friends are saying their spot markets are more interesting than Binance and Coinbase now. Kudos. The question now becomes: (1) whether they can leverage that foundation to be the spot market that all these perp DEX’s lean on for price discovery, and (2) somehow charge a significant toll that accrues value back to $SOL Infra plays like @TheHUB which provide (1) both the optimized connectivity, and (2) the flexible commercial model to accrue value back – will increasingly be the option to achieve the above. Where I agree or not, Hyperliquid effectively monetized (back to $HYPE) the demand for their perps liquidity via priority fees. Now those in @TheHUB who can arb HL (given HL latency) have to pay a toll that effectively helps $HYPE investors. Kudos to them for realizing this demand and implementing this so fast. The question is if that toll becomes prohibitive at some point? Do traders find a cheaper place to go that doesn’t have that fee/friction? That’s what’s happened in TradFi to any exchanges who put up latency frictions like speedbumps. Time will tell. The other question is whether Solana finds a way to do something similar given their spot dominance? Or will traders just have free reign to lean on that spot liquidity with no value accrual back to $SOL investors or ecosystem benefit? All these innovations (eg faster finality) might just be making it easier for external traders to take advantage of that spot liquidity. Either way, @TheHUB will be in the middle of it all…
