Oyster reefs facilitate bioturbation in surrounding sediments. You can read all about it here: doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.4021. Also, a sneak peek of upcoming work, these same bioturbators drive nutrient cycling around reefs. Stay tuned, a lot more to come @SydneySOLES @harbourprogram

Can you spot the bioturbator?
Replying to @themarinediary
Master’s student @Juliamarine25 is finding out if #bioturbator burrows could also influence N2 removal. She paired the chamber data with DNA analysis of sediment bacterial communities inside the burrows, to see if they are a habitat for nitrogen-fixing bacteria. (3/3)

Australian #oysterreef habitat has declined drastically since pre-colonisation times. Our focus is studying the funamendal #ecology of our remnant oystereefs in order to provide guidelines for future #restoration efforts @GribbenLab gribbenlab.org/

We are doing a #TakeOver of @themarinediary today to talk about our research on Sydney Rock #oysterreefs, and what we are learning to help the #shellfishrestoration efforts! Tune in to find out what our students are up to, supported by partners @nswdpi & @nature_org.
Join us ✨TOMORROW✨(🗓️31st) for a #takeover by the Sydney Harbour Research Program! They will discuss their ongoing research on remnant Sydney Rock #OysterReefs, and what they are learning to help the #ShellfishRestoration efforts in Australia. @harbourprogram @SydneyMarine
