As we head into the first unofficial long weekend of summer, we expect increased traffic across the region and on local waterways. 🚨 If you’re travelling this weekend: - Leave exterior lights on and make your home look occupied - Avoid posting your plans or location on social media - Plan ahead and allow extra time for heavier traffic - Do not drive or boat impaired Officers will be conducting enhanced traffic enforcement throughout the weekend, and our Marine Unit will be patrolling local waterways. ⚓️ Thank you to all first responders working this weekend. 🚔🚒🚑☎️ Have a safe long weekend.

@DRPSCWDiv officers were conducting proactive patrol in south Whitby, when they observed a vehicle traveling at 123 km/h in a posted 60 km/h hour zone. The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding. 14 day vehicle impound. 30 day license suspension.

Members from @DRPSCWDiv C Platoon conducted a R.I.D.E line in Whitby this evening. Over 300 vehicles were stopped, with one driver registering an "Alert" Registering an Alert is an automatic 7 day license suspension for first time offence. Please do not drink and drive.

Members from @DRPSCWDiv responded to multiple calls for a vehicle this evening. The vehicle was eventually located and the driver was arrested for impaired driving. If you suspect an impaired driver, please call 911.

After 17 years of dedicated service in the Durham Regional Police Service K9 Unit, Detective Constable Corby Wright is transitioning to a new role in Central West Division, where he will continue serving the residents of Whitby. We also celebrate the well-earned retirement of Police Service Dog Hawk, who served the Durham Region faithfully for 7 years. Throughout his career, DC Wright worked alongside two incredible canine partners: PSD Hemmi, who passed away in June 2023, and PSD Hawk, who retired on October 31, 2025. DC Wright’s passion for the K9 Unit has left a lasting impact on our community. We thank him for his unwavering commitment and wish him all the best in his new role. And to PSD Hawk—enjoy your retirement, you've earned it!
