Zambians you should know in 2 0 2 4 Musonda Mumba — scientist, authority on wetlands and longtime UN Diplomat. Dr Mumba is the Secretary-General of the Convention on Wetlands. (Previously held esteemed positions at UNEP & UNDP). When @MumbaMusondam enters a room she takes it over with her charm, oversize personality and eccentric fashion — you either like her or you don’t, but her presence is inescapable. She’s unapologetic (about her accomplishments), intentional and will not let a good opportunity pass (facilitating with fluency, high-level panels featuring heads of State while slaying a crimson lip and dress). Musonda represents the best of Zambian women; self-mastery, well-read, modern and deeply traditional at once (all her remarks and writings always reference Zambian traditional knowledge systems). On a personal level, this doting mother is a typical gal’s friend — contagious laughter, shares everything and enjoys her wine and finer things of life. Where Musonda ends up in the next few years remains to be seen, but one thing is certain; she will get there and it will be a seismic first.
