Over the next month the Oriental Museum will be trialling a new audio descriptive guide created in collaboration with members of Blind Life in Durham. Please ask our front of house team to try it and once you’ve finished please complete a questionnaire about your experience.

Did you know that Cosin’s Library is one of the oldest surviving public libraries in the North East? 📚 Bishop Cosin’s Library is located within Palace Green Library, and is open to visitors (free of charge) between 11am-3pm Wednesday-Sundays. 💜 @ThisisDurham @DurhamWHS

Richard Rutt known as ‘The Knitting Bishop’. A very talented knitter who also researched the history of knitting, writing a book called ‘The History of Handknitting’. On display in ‘Knitted Together: The Korean lives and legacies of Richard and Joan Rutt’ at the Oriental Museum

This is John's favourite object: it is the Chinese model of a rhinoceros. I think it looks really cute and cool at the same time even though it’s display cabinet description reads “It is clear that the creator had never seen an actual rhinoceros.”
