The Ifab and Fifa have introduced many law changes for this World Cup, it's no surprise there is confusion. Mistaken identity, or mistaken interpretation? Could the positive reaction to the Ream / Almiron yellow card swap create a law change by proxy? 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

Somali referee Omar Artan, who was denied entry to the US, will receive his full World Cup tournament fee from Fifa, BBC Sport can reveal. And in a twist it can be revealed that officials do not find out what that fee is until after the tournament! 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

During the Qatar vs. Switzerland match in the San Francisco Bay Area, a brief technical outage prevented the onside animation graphic from being generated ahead of the penalty awarded to Switzerland in the 14th minute. The issue was quickly resolved. The workflow of the VAR was not affected by this issue and followed the normal procedure in checking the on-field decision. The lines used by the VAR to check the position of the relevant players did not show the attacking player to be in an offside position in either of the two situations immediately before the penalty decision.

It could be argued that Fifa has decided to go with public opinion. Especially given diving was not mentioned once in any briefing or news conference about this new law in the last five months.
I've been saying video technology should have been used to do something about diving for ages, but the problem is the law is clearly not brought in to do that

Officials will also be asked to place a greater emphasis on grappling and holding inside the area. Set-pieces last season were blighted by holding, grappling and pushing inside the area - instigated by both sides. The game improvement advisory board proposed the changes.

JUST IN Premier League referees have been told to change the way they judge hair pulling after three players were sent off last season. Three players saw red through VAR interventions last season. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

Teams are allowed to set up for a long throw as that's not considered timewasting. Obviously there are ways that could be abused.
Replying to @DaleJohnsonBBC
Dale, why were Bosnia penalised for taking too long at a throw in, yet Canada were allowed ages for the right back to cross the pitch to take one and to get everyone up from the back into the box? Seems a bit stupid and unfair really

Three red cards in the opening game, and only four in both the Russia and Qatar World Cups. Should we expect a glut of reds? ◾️ Collina's ethos ◾️ Breaking down the Dogso reds ◾️ Why a change to Dogso law is a factor ◾️ VAR right on the red card? 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

The annual Premier League football survey - which includes clubs, captains and coaches - also looked at the goalkeeper "tactical timeout". 85% felt the goalkeeper "tactical timeout" was an issue in the Premier League. A solution (TBD) is to be introduced for next season.

Wondering why the VAR did not step in to give South Africa a corner at the end of the first half? #MEXRSA

They can't raise the flag until the offside player actually commits an offside offence. There was a situation where Raul Jimenez was on the left wing, and the assistant raised the flag as soon as he touched the ball.
Replying to @DaleJohnsonBBC
Didn’t we see a delayed offside flag, when the ball went long, down the South African left wing? Thought they were dust here?

The two on-field reds were correct. But the VAR red was soft and unnecessary. For the third red card, the South African player's next touch is to take control inside the area with no covering defender. It's one touch and shot. The VAR will not intervene on this. #MEXRSA

Last season in Crystal Palace v Bournemouth, the referee rejected a VAR red card to Marcos Senesi. This went down as an error and PGMO agreed it was. There are similarities with the Mexico DOGSO red. #MEXRSA youtu.be/4W7RvA48aZk?si=L3NS…
