Good luck to @fa_pgmol assistant referee James Mainwaring who is making his @FIFAWorldCup debut on Monday. James prepared in our environmental chamber, acclimating to heat, humidity and altitude conditions he’ll face at the tournament. 🔗 bit.ly/3QilRFZ. @McrInstSport

The most important rule in training is also the least dramatic: be consistent. It doesn’t sell books or rack up likes. But it’s the one thing that makes everything else possible.

here are different sports on a continuum of sprint-endurance, and strength-speed v2 It’s meant for visual comparison & some sports required development in all areas. But try to see these relative to the other sports on the chart - and that might help with interpretation.

So many “influencers,” “optimizers,” and “wellness” gurus don’t have partners, kids, or really any obligations outside of themselves. They sell optimization, purity, and perfectionism, but anyone who is actually in the arena knows true greatness is a distinctly human and therefore messy endeavor. Yes—strive to be healthy, focused, and goal oriented. But also realize that sometimes the key to adult life is that you’ve just got to order a pizza and move on.

You've probably seen headlines: High-Intensity Training is superior to easy aerobic running. But dig deeper and you'll notice a pattern: most of these studies are short: just 4 to 8 weeks. A recent review tells a fuller story. In the early weeks, HIT and Sprint Interval Training outperform easy endurance training (ET). But over the long haul… the story changes

Zone 2 training in professional football or in general team sports, a nice controversial topic as not much studied on this on a higher quality scale. I think one part of this also is that there is not really agreement of how to determine thresholds (for example mathematical vs 2mmol etc), but the one used here is quite normal in Finland (see figure 1). Nonetheless, this study added 1 hour of individualized training at 72% of LT1 (programming though a bit unclear as it says 26 sessions in 9 weeks, so not sure if that's 3 hours or 1hour/3). No control group, but very interesting pilot results. Speed increased at lactate thresholds, indicating improved buffering. Im curious whether LT1 training improves RSA or just in general recovery between sessions. Also, would a volume increase like this influence speed to what extent? We have to make inevitable sacrifices to speed in many sports, but just curious of what is necessary. Thoughts? journals.plos.org/plosone/ar…
