Cecilia and I are deeply saddened by the senseless act of violence in Midland. We are praying for the victims, their families, and the entire community. I have been briefed on the matter and commend the swift response from the Midland Police Department, DPS and all assisting law enforcement agencies.

As thousands of Texas Republicans travel to Houston this week, let us pause and pray for God’s protection over every mile traveled. Heavenly Father, We ask for Your hand of protection over every delegate, alternate, volunteer, staff member, elected official, and guest making their way to convention. Grant them safe travels by road and by air. Keep them alert, patient, and free from harm. Bring everyone to their destination safely and reunite them with their loved ones when the week is complete. As we gather together, give us wisdom, humility, and unity of purpose. Help us conduct ourselves with grace, seek what is right, and work faithfully for the good of Texas. May this convention be marked by servant leadership, meaningful fellowship, and a renewed commitment to the principles we hold dear.
