What a way to start the year! Days Gone didn't disappoint. Its setting and mechanics are instantly appealing for post-apocalyptic fans. And some of its design even reminded me of RDR2. Though some important (and awesome) stuff is bizarrely hidden in the post-credit content.

Has anyone noticed how Xbox's downfall coincided almost exactly with the moment Satya Nadella became the CEO at Microsoft?
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Xbox "We've invested a lot for the last 25 years. We have to turn this into a sustainable business. The challenge we have is, we've not been monetizing that entertainment. In fact, we've been subsidizing that entertainment."

Ended up not disliking it as much as I thought I would at the beginning, yet I can't help but feel this was a wasted opportunity especially for a licensed IP. A 2D side-scrolling metroidvania action-platformer with some good aspects to it that ultimately needed a bit more care.
As someone who doesn't do racing games, dropped FH4 after a few hours, didn't try FH5 & doesn't care about cars, my enjoyment of this shocked me. But more than a racer, Forza Horizon 6 is a fun-filled sprawling canvas you can use to paint any shenanigans you want. Had a blast.

It won't happen but I've been dreaming about this since 2016 ngl

The Information: Microsoft Has Considered Spinning Out Xbox, Plans New ‘Halo,’ ‘Fallout’ Games theinformation.com/articles/… "As Microsoft gets ready to overhaul its struggling Xbox gaming unit, it hasn't ruled out spinning out or restructuring the unit as a wholly-owned subsidiary, which could make it easier to sell, or creating a joint venture with other partners, according to three people with direct knowledge of the discussions." more: resetera.com/threads/the-inf…

I was looking for something shorter to play after Forza Horizon 6 and a mate of mine really sold this game to me. Play it he said. You'll have tons fun he said. Last time I trust that mfer.

Just watched it. It was already 1 of my most anticipated but this demo 100% sold it. I loved the darker tone of the last trailer but this fully felt like Fable to me. Reputation & NPCs with routines & emergent behaviour are music to my ears. I'll be losing myself in this world.

For the 1st time since 2002, the overwhelming majority of my gaming purchases this year was done outside of @XBOX. Recent changes have me intrigued and I'm tentatively beginning to buy from them again, but I need to see a lot more intent and consistency before I fully recommit.

Haven't talked about it since the showcase as I was already 100% sold and the new trailer only cemented that. But I loved this showing from State of Decay 3. Legit can't wait for it. My 2nd most anticipated game after TES6. Glad we're at least having 1 of them release this gen.

Now that all summer showcases are done, and since I obviously won't be able to get to everything I'm interested in, I decided to rank my top 15 brand new announcements. Hands Over might be the game that finally makes me overcome my reluctance to try multiplayer. Looks super fun.

It's getting somewhat drowned out by the exclusivity noise but Xbox's output since 2024 has been beyond impressive. Tons of quantity, quality and variety in their pipeline. Last year in particular was wild. If you'd told me in 2017 we'd be here today I would've called you crazy.

I find it genuinely unbelievable that up until now nobody in that entire organisation was apparently able to comprehend this most basic of gaming truths. Seriously what the hell was going on at Xbox?
"Matthew Ball went on to acknowledge that certain Xbox exclusives will sell fewer units than they might otherwise if they were multiplatform, but that is a short-term issue, and making these changes will help Xbox’s console business grow in the future". Common sense is back at Xbox, holy shit. gamespot.com/articles/is-xbo…

I watched every summer showcase this year. All 18 of them. Came out with 85 games I'm interested in and hadn't heard about (not all fit in this picture). I'll be lucky if I get to like 20% of these. Especially if you're a horror fan this is an unbelievable time to be gaming.

If someone: a) intentionally conflates Xbox fans - who have always criticised the multiplat strategy - with fanboys (who get stuff for free & flip-flop on a dime when Xbox tells them to) b) doesn't bring this same energy after a PS/Nintendo showcase don't take them seriously.
I'm concerned Asha may be listening too much to a very small but very loud segment of Xbox fans on X. The parasocial crowd often dominates the conversation, but they don't necessarily represent the broader audience. But what do I know.

Nonsensical exclusivity strategy aside I will say this: if you're a fan of Game Pass this was a very strong showcase. You'll be feasting for a while.
Solid Xbox/PlayStation showcase imo Not going into Xbox's implied direction (which gives me little confidence for its future), there were only 2 new announcements that got me truly hyped in Senua and Magicians. Maybe P6. Really strong showing of already announced games though.

Logging off Twitter until tomorrow so I can avoid showcase spoilers. Which seems like a good time to remind everyone leakers are one of the biggest wastes of space in the entire gaming industry and literal joy thieves. Stay safe out there folks.

Also shoutout to my modded 1986 MG Metro 6R4, the clear unsung hero during this journey. Ended up only catching my eye towards the later stages, and it nothing more than passable on hard services. But what a beast this was for dirt races and off-road nonsense!

No idea how it was on release, but in its current state Cyberpunk 2077 is a near seminal game that almost everyone should play. Its few blemishes do very little to tarnish an otherwise superb experience. Easily top 3 of the gen for me, and now one of my all-time favourites.

Dude this was easily the best SGF I can remember. Steady pace, lots of bangers and especially more awesome reveals than I anticipated. Between the new announcements and the stuff I was already excited for there was a ton in this one for me. Excellent stuff.
