I wrote a chapter with the WSSU archivist about Silver Hill. If you'd like to learn more than what the City shares every February, check it out: link.springer.com/content/pd…
Did you know there is an African American cemetery in the Buena Vista neighborhood? It’s called Silver Hill Cemetery.
Happy Black History Month! Thank you to the Forsyth County Historic Resources Commission for sharing this information.

Antioch Primitive Baptist Church, which had anchored Silver Hill since the 1880s, burned down on Easter Monday, 1942. Six years later, the Twin City Sentinel reported on a cross burning in the neighborhood.
Despite annexing the neighborhood in 1920, the City refused to provide running water and sewer service to Silver Hill until they got WPA funds to pay for it in 1938. They refused to pave the streets of Silver Hill until after the last Black family moved out in the 1970s.
