I’ll be honest, I was one of those who initially believed the narrative that these South African protests were purely Xenophobic. But after looking deeper into it, I became convinced that a lot of that narrative is false and heavily exaggerated.
That said, a lot of people are desperately hoping these protests eventually become truly Xenophobic so they can finally say, “I told you so.” South Africans may have legitimate concerns about illegal immigration, but they must be careful not to let Xenophobic elements hijack their movement and turn it into something evil.
If a person’s only crime is illegal entry, they should still be treated with dignity and humanity while being escorted out. However, if an illegal immigrant is also involved in crime and causing harm to their host country, then they should be dealt with accordingly.
As the Xhosa nation,
we reject every attempt by politicians & parliamentarians to divide South Africans through tribalism
There is no war between tribes
The marches happening across the country represent the voice of ALL South Africans united for justice, safety&accountability
