In this GRDC video we hear from WA growers Nick Scotney and Timm House as well as agronomists Erin Cahill and Tom McInerney.
We find out what makes legumes profitable, how profitable they need to be to make it worthwhile, and the multi-year factors at play.

The RiskWi$e project is a GRDC investment helping grain growers better understand the risks and rewards associated with increasingly costly and complex on-farm decisions.
GGA leads the project in the western region and in partnership with Facey Group and Corrigin Farm Improvement Group, is delving into how growers navigate sowing decisions, which can be impacted by both frost and/or late season heat stress.
Read more about the work these grower groups are undertaking, as part of the RiskWi$e initiative, in the latest #groundcover article below.
GGA is collaborating with eight Western Australian grower group project partners, as part of the project, to explore decision-making on nitrogen, sowing decisions and machinery investment. Read more at gga.org.au/activity/riskwise…#Riskwisefacebook.com/share/p/18v1xp1…

Join MLA for a webinar sharing findings from four years of research for the SheepLinks Feed365 project in WA.
Lead researchers, DPIRD's Daniel Real and Paul Sanford, will cover:
✅Carrying capacity increases from ~9DSE/ha for winter and spring, to 10 DSE/ha all year round
✅Which pasture and forage mixes performed best across key seasonal feed gaps
✅How alternative species can help manage variable seasons and smooth feed supply

Out and about in Frankland River with Liam working through chemical treatments on our Faba bean broadleaf trial.
Great to have @GGA_WA and @theGRDC supporting projects in our region!
Some great data and insights being generated by these 2 groups that are helping with sowing decisions in frost prone areas of WA. The decision support tools like DPIRD Flower Power still provide accurate predictions on flowering windows and CSIRO are developing a tool for canola
NEW WEBINAR: Water-use efficiency (WUE), guiding management decisions
James Hunt from University of Melbourne explains how WUE reflected processes such as transpiration, evaporation, plant-available water and harvest index, all of which influenced how effectively crops converted water into biomass and grain.

🚜🌱 WA growers – we want to hear from you!
GGA is inviting Western Australian growers to share their experiences, insights and perspectives on the use of grain legumes in crop rotations, what’s working, what’s changing, and where are the gaps.
Since 2022, GGA has partnered with 15 grower groups across Western Australia through a GRDC-investment into grain legumes which investigates local barriers limiting adoption. GGA is now interested in understanding whether grower confidence in grain legume production has improved over this time.
Your input will help guide future GRDC investments into grain legume RD&E in WA.

🎬New four-part video series on WA legumes just released!
WA Growers are well aware of the benefits grain legumes can have for their farming system, but often have concerns about variable yields and in-season profitability which limits confidence to adopt them more broadly.
A @theGRDC investment, with the Grower Group Alliance aims to address some of the biggest constraints to grain legume adoption in a four-part video series, which tackles the agronomy, profitability, marketing, and harvesting of grain legumes in WA.
Watch the latest video exploring the first part of that equation: how to grow them.
The video features growers Nick Scotney (Piawaning), agVivo agronomist, Erin Cahill (Moora) as well as Timm House (Gnowangerup),and Tom McInerney from Great Southern Ag.
