There's a weird, pervasive issue in animation where any compositional choice which slightly deviates from convention has to be breathlessly justified with logic.
A shot like this would get 47 notes about unnecessary negative space and headroom as it went up the chain--

A million caveats to what's above but "within reason" can be attached to all of it.
There's a lot of putting other work on a pedestal in animation (live action stuff, Ghibli, etc) while refusing to learn from and incorporate anything that doesn't "follow the rules."

I've been lucky to work on some shows that didn't suffer from this issue and I don't think it's nearly as bad as it used to be, but I've also seen several examples of this philosophy still thriving.

Be extremely specific about what you want to study.
For example, don't study all anatomy at once, pick a single piece of it and focus on how it works
With that in mind, do referenced studies and then immediately try to draw it from memory to test what you've retained.
