Very much looking forward to another reprise of the Medtner Improvisation here, along with Beethoven’s final piano sonata and spicy works by Sofia Gubaidulina & Kenneth Leighton.

Coming up on Monday 27th in London, my next installment of ‘Variations’ at the beautiful @wigmore_hall, focusing on Nikolai Medtner’s hauntingly beautiful and incomprehensibly underplayed ‘Second Improvisation’ Op 47 (well it is difficult I grant you…) wigmore-hall.org.uk/whats-on…

We are deeply saddened and shocked by the senseless attack in the early hours of this morning at the Hatzola Northwest ambulance base.   Hatzola NW, along with all Hatzola organisations, provides life-saving services without discrimination, regardless of faith or background. It is extremely distressing and difficult to comprehend that such a vital service could be targeted and attacked in such a way.
We are working closely with the police and relevant support agencies to ensure the safety and security of our premises and resources, so that we can continue to respond swiftly to emergencies.

We are absolutely heartbroken that this is how low Britain has sunk. This horrific act truly plumbs new depths. Hatzola is a volunteer-run ambulance service run by the Jewish community but catering to everyone, Jews and non-Jews alike, working with the NHS to save lives as fast as possible. They provide outstanding medical care at lightning speed every hour of every day, and fundraise to buy ambulances and equipment. They are truly a shining example of the Jewish community coming together to help everyone in the most fundamental of ways by giving the gift of life. Burning their ambulances in an attempt to put them out of action is a truly repulsive act of antisemitic hatred in a Britain where Jews now have to keep everything from schools to synagogues under constant guard. Our society has become infested with the sickness of antisemitism. In this case it is not only about catching the perpetrators and restoring the ambulances, but about politicians accepting that by tolerating everything from hate marches to hate preachers, they have created this sickening mess, and time has run out for them to act. The law must change, fast, but so must society. The people spewing obsessive conspiracy theories about Jews, Zionists and Israelis are not social justice warriors, they are hateful bigots who are feeding this madness and must be stood up to and told as much by ordinary decent people.

🚨 The humanitarian disaster continues to unfold inside Iran right now with tens of thousands already killed, hundreds of thousands with injuries, many life threatening. They are not victims of a natural disaster. It is a government trying to wipe out their own people for protesting against them. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is most of the country. I get asked ‘why is this not in the news now?’ The answer is stark: the government has shut down the internet. Even @elonmusk Starlink satellites have been jammed. So hear it from an Iranian simply trying to amplify faint voices coming out of Iran: worse is yet to come. #IranMassacre

Iranian protesters: “Death to the Islamic Republic!” “This is the year of blood, Seyed Ali (Khamenei) will be toppled!” “This homeland won’t be a homeland until the Mullahs are buried.” U.S. Media & Analysts: “Well, Jim, it seems they’re upset about the economy.”

From my dear and amazing friend, @TAMARA_SUJU . Tamara is a human rights lawyer, persecuted by the regime and exiled in Europe. She’s director of the @caslainstitute and works day and night to put the criminals behind bars and fights for the release of political prisoners in Venezuela.

A layered quote from fellow Venezuelan, Michel Hausman: “You can oppose Trump and still applaud the removal of Nicolás Maduro. You can hold two thoughts in your head at the same time. Trump is not the moral compass of the universe, and Maduro still belongs in prison.” I’d like to add that I greatly appreciate the risks the US servicemen and women faced to successfully complete the extraction. They removed the head of the monster- now there’s the rest of the criminal structure to take care of. They all belong in jail.

Iranians continue to risk their lives to oppose one of the world’s most brutal regimes. Yet there are no mass marches for them in the West - perhaps because too many who shout loudest prefer Iran’s rulers to the brave people resisting them.

One year ago today, Hamas militias shot and killed a Palestinian critic of Hamas in Gaza — Ziyad Abu Hayya — right in front of his children, inside the tent where the family was living, after he appeared in a video pleading with the world to save Gaza from Hamas. A full year has passed, and not a single human rights organization has documented Zyad’s story or spoken with his family. His name has been left in silence. What his family wants is simple: justice for Ziyad. His killer has never been held accountable. Over the past two years — and throughout 17 years of Hamas’s rule — they have tortured, killed, and terrorized countless Palestinians who dared to speak, criticize, or resist. Ziyad’s story isn’t an exception; it is part of a brutal, systematic pattern of silencing any Palestinian who dares to speak out.

BREAKING: Since the ceasefire began, Hamas militias have unleashed a wave of arrests across Gaza, dozens seized, accused of being “collaborators” or members of anti-Hamas clans. They’re now publicly announcing that executions will soon take place. After two years of relentless Israeli bombing, Gazans are now trapped under Hamas’s bullets and prisons. Where are the human rights organizations now, the ones who claim to defend Palestinians, but fall silent when the killers are Hamas?

Wonderful to see this. When I recorded three concertos by excellent women composers in 2015 with @rmconductor & @BBCSSO , the Ambache Trust generously supported. This latest initiative will further a very noble aim. Thank you Diana Ambache & @RoyalPhilSoc!
Introducing the RPS Ambache Fund, supporting performers, ensembles, venues and festivals to put exceptional yet overlooked music by historic women composers at the heart of their programming. Applications are open until 31 March 2026. Find out more here: royalphilharmonicsociety.org…

To any Brits who are at pains to explain that they’re anti-Zionists but not antisemitic: How would you respond to people in other countries saying ‘we’re not anti-British, but Britain should cease to exist’?

10/7 was one of the most shameful days in the history of the Palestinian people; having Gaza and my beautiful people associated with the worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust is a painful & awful tragedy that I & many Palestinians want nothing to do with ever. I wish more "pro-Palestine activists" would recognize and respect this and accept it as an actual fact and legitimate truth.

For over a year I went to the so-called ‘pro-Palestine’ marches in London. What I saw was open antisemitism paraded through our streets - the same kind of hatred my Jewish grandfather faced in Nazi Germany. These marches aren’t about peace - they’re about hate. Ban them.

There is a deal on the table that will end the war in Gaza, release all the hostages, prevent Hamas from terrorizing Israelis AND Gazans again, and provide a better life for the people of Gaza. Where are all the protests demanding that Hamas cease fire and accept the deal?
