opinion piece: cargo cults, data flywheels, and novelty pumps tl;dr: “deployment data flywheels” miss that scale should provide novelty, and deploying robots on a known task wrings most novelty out of its generated data your ops team’s novelty pump is the only way out 🔗👇

This is wild. One person made this in two days from only a three page spec.

Lots of obvious bugs, far from shippable, no gameplay obviously. But there are quite a few interesting features in there. And you know there are better AI models coming soon. This train isn't stopping.

I can't wait to see what people produce with next year's models. When game creation becomes more accessible we all benefit. I can't wait to see the wacky ideas that will come from people outside the games industry who never had the ability to make games like this before.

Whoever at Anthropic decided to make everyone's token spend in dollars visible to the whole team was a genius

Gotta say that chatgpt has been a godsend for this project already. It's like having a dozen experts on call.

I used to try to avoid the random-jumble-of-letters Chinese brands on Amazon, but I'm increasingly finding that their stuff is more than adequate, and even sometimes better than the alternatives.

Absolutely insane what you can get on Amazon with 12 hour delivery these days. I'm not really missing the retail store experience anymore.

I hope Anthropic is giving him an equity grant worth $1B or more in their upcoming IPO. Having him will increase their market cap more than that, if for no other reason than that people trust him as a judge of who is winning the AI race. Worth it even if he never does any work.
Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.
