Ladies and Gents, the Forfar Concerned Residents volunteer group are delighted to tell you that the proposal to change the care home at Lochbank into a 38 room HMO has been refused by the council. This was a unanimous decision by the councillors to reject the proposal, for multiple reasons including the kitchen provision, the population density within the HMO and the quality of life, the impact on the roads, the environment and the surrounding area, etc. The main positive appeared to be bringing a derelict building back into use. Weighed against everything the people of the town had complained about in our objections, there was only one realistic choice to make. Credit to the councillors for assessing the situation appropriately and making the right decision for the town. A massive thank you from myself to the team of volunteers from the four corners of the town that have kept up the work on this whole episode for months now, this effort was only possible because they made it possible. And a massive thank you to the people of Forfar for your understanding, your support and your encouragement. And for objecting in huge numbers to help push this in the direction that was needed. This was a community effort to have our voice heard, and I think it's fair to say, it was. Of course, we won't be taking our eye off the ball with this issue entirely, but for now at least, we can enjoy the result and the knowledge that local democracy is still a thing.
