Marmore Falls, Umbria. Remarkable sight & considerably taller than Niagara Falls. They are actually man-made, designed by the Romans, to alleviate issues caused by a stagnant wetland on the Velino River. They dug channels & diverted water over the cliffs to join the Nera instead.

Finally making a bit of a move again & much more myself after the parasite palaver. I had a few hours to kill between trains in Rome yesterday, so hopped on a Lime Bike & saw a lot of major sites (from the outside) in just a few hours. A fun little spin.

A rocky 6 weeks. I’d been feeling on & off unwell for a while & couldn’t figure out why. I returned to UK & after a load of tests, turns out I’ve had a parasite calling my body home for (I think) 2 months, since Uzbekistan, when I began to feel odd. Finally on the mend.

A brief visit to the UK, largely spent on the coastal trails on the South Coast. Hengistbury Head in these photos - a lovely spot for a walk, with great beaches, a nature reserve, wetlands & lovely views both down the Dorset coast and towards Hampshire.

More shots from Upper-Svaneti, it’s 100% one of my favourite places on earth.
Upper-Svaneti, Georgia - one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been. I’ve visited a few times and it always stands a major highlight of my travels. The scale and sheer beauty of the peaks, mixed in with ancient history & the fantastic usual Georgian vibe. Epic place.

Stumbled upon a gem in Western Georgia recently - Kvareli Lake Resort. I spotted a lake on a map & went to check it out. There’s a hotel there with views to the lake & to the wine making valley behind. Quite pricey, so I didn’t stay, but had a great lunch & hike around the lake.

Sighnaghi town walls with the Greater Caucasus mountains in the background. In between you have the famous wine growing Kakhetian plateau.

The snowy peaks between Tbilisi and Telavi. A surprisingly large amount of snow on the lower hills for this time of year.

Parents on tour in Tbilisi. A wander around the relatively newly refurbished Vera park and a funicular ride up to the top of Mtatsminda mountain.

The 72 foot high Leghvtakhevi Waterfall in the centre of Tbilisi, just behind the Old Town. To get there you walk a short way from the river, through a canyon, with old properties perched high on cliffs above. I can’t think of many other cities with one this size in their heart.

Tbilisi’s Turtle Lake, a nice escape from the busy city streets. You can get a cable car up from the Vake neighbourhood or hike up some well marked trails. There are also great mountain bike trails down the mountain too & a few zip lines in the area.
Easter Friday morning spent hiking in the hills around Tbilisi. This is one of the ancient watch towers, perched behind the Vake neighbourhood. There are thousands of these 9th-12th century defence towers in the Svaneti region, in the high mountains - they’re UNESCO listed too.

Enjoyed my time in Uzbekistan, but delighted to be back in wonderful Georgia for a good while. The country has a very special place in my heart.
