In English studies, 'Inner Circle' countries = English is mostly a 1st language (e.g. US, Aus); 'Outer Circle' = mostly 2nd lang (e.g. India, Ghana).
I try to tell my students 'Inner Circle' happened by displacing/destroying whole populations. This passage helps that comparison.

This is pretty dark reading, covering not only methodological flaws but also racism and the violent process of settler colonialism.

NEWSFLASH: It's ok to do research with normative goals, actually. Everyone who says otherwise is supporting status quo power imbalances and inequality, which is, drum-roll, also a normative position, just a terrible one. 🤷♀️

* Democracy is good.
* Extraction and exploitation are bad.
* Lack of ability to make core decision's about one's life conditions are bad.

Top tip if former students/employees often ask you for references: ask them to draft it & send you for checking/signing. It's entirely honest, you can verify details. Still it saves you a lot of time, & allows them to emphasise specific details for each job/study place. Win win!
